Stories of Giving on #GivingTuesday

December 3, 2013

What’s better to celebrate Giving Tuesday than stories of volunteer service, being with family, & doing good together!?

On November 23rd, over 40 volunteers comprised of families and friends served more than 100 volunteer hours to be the change in Marin County. Our volunteers served at four different projects that helped support various local impact areas. Volunteers worked with Homeward Bound of Marin in the maintenance of their culinary garden. Another group of crafty volunteers made holiday themed cards for Warm Wishes and Homeward Bound residents. Volunteers dug in and participated with the habitat restoration at Bahia Bay in Novato. A group of volunteers packed and decorated healthy kid kits for Fairfax-San Anselmo Children’s Center to promote healthy lifestyle choices. We had a generous outpouring from local businesses that donated healthy snacks and eco-friendly items for the kits: One Planet Granola, Clif BarKids KonserveRevolution Foods, & Happy Family Brands.

A volunteer who brought their whole family to one of the events said that the opportunity was a chance to “show a loving concern to others in our community and teach my children the importance of giving with your heart and hands.”

This special day of service was a great time for families to engage together and in the community and experienced the Flexible Volunteer Program.  The Center and Volunteer Marin would like to thank all of the families, nonprofits who participated in 2013 Family Volunteer Day!
